What is the Institute of Plumbing Australia?

The Institute of Plumbing Australia Incorporated (formerly the Institute of Plumbers  Australia) was founded in 1954 to promote and protect the calling of Plumbing in all its branches.

The Institute seeks to protect and advance the status of all those engaged in, or connected with, Plumbing.

The Institute is an Australian National Organisation with members and associates in New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia.

Governance is provided at State level by Chapters and at National level by a Council consisting of the President of the Institute as Chairperson and Councillors elected as representatives of the Chapters.

A Monthly Newsletter (E-INSTITUTE) is emailed to all members and encourages comment and input by members on a wide range of subjects connected with the various aspects of plumbing and its impact on the well being of the community and environment of Australia and beyond.

The Institute, its Council and Members are actively representing the interests of Plumbing in many spheres including:

The Institute sees its role as to provide an open forum free of any political or commercial agenda for the discussion of matters effecting plumbing and the role of plumbing in the well being of the community.

Membership of the Institute of Plumbing Australia Inc. is not confined to any one section of the industry, nor is it limited only to employers or to employees.  Its membership covers a very wide cross-section of the industry which includes, teaching staff, practising plumbers, master plumbers, consulting plumbers, plumbing inspectors, manufacturers, suppliers, executives of kindred organisations and others, indeed, every facet of the craft and industry of plumbing.

The major benefit of membership of the Institute of Plumbing Australia is the opportunity to become involved with people from all branches of plumbing that feel, as you do, that Plumbing and its Associated Callings are vital to the wellbeing of the community.  In Australia at present there are many that seek to relegate plumbing to just another Construction Trade without recognising its responsibilities to the wider community in its role as a protector of Public Health.  Plumbing education, licensing, regulations, standards and product certification are all under constant attack to cheapen the bottom line.  It is vitally important that the Plumbing Industry controls its own destiny.  You can help by joining this Institute and taking an active role in protecting your own future.
